This concert features two major Russian works.
One of Tchaikovsky’s most loved works and among the most famous in the classical music canon, the first Piano Concerto is a deeply expressive and romantic ‘tour de force’.
Shostakovich dedicated his 12th Symphony to the memory of Lenin. The Symphony has a subtitle, “The Year 1917”, as each of the movements is named for a different part of the Russian October Revolution.
Gliere – Russian Sailors’ Dance
Tchaikovsky – Piano Concerto No. 1
Shostakovich – Symphony No. 12 – The Year 1917
